Temporary Demountable Structures

Updated: 8 December 2025

Please note: The information contained in this chapter sets out good practice that should be considered by event organisers. However, it is industry guidance and does not necessarily cover everything that organisers need to consider for a particular event.

All structures must be appropriately secured to the ground taking account of their wind ratings and the weather during the event. Wind conditions should be monitored using an anemometer (wind speed device) and action taken if there is any risk of them being blown over. Care should be taken during the erection and dismantling of tented structures, paying particular attention to the ‘Working at Height’ guidelines. In the case of larger structures, these should be erected by the supplier using appropriately trained staff and they should provide a signed handover inspection report saying that the structure is safe and ready to use.
