Amusements

Updated: 8 December 2025

Please note: The information contained in this chapter sets out good practice that should be considered by event organisers. However, it is industry guidance and does not necessarily cover everything that organisers need to consider for a particular event.

Amusements, including fairs and inflatables such as bouncy castles, are popular attractions at many events but can cause harm to people if they are not properly located and managed.  Make sure that units are located on stable ground and properly secured.  Operators of amusements must be experienced, insured and equipment certified as in good working order.   The operators must also be able to demonstrate that they have appropriate training.   It is strongly recommended that all amusement operators are members of an appropriate trade body for their industry and abide by their rules, such as The Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain
